A fellow at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Martin Kramer, has called for “the West” to take measures to curb the births of Palestinians, a proposal that appears to meet the international legal definition of a call for genocide.

Kramer, who is also a fellow at the influential Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), made the call early this month in a speech at Israel’s Herzliya conference, a video of which is posted on his blog (“Superfluous young men,” February 7, 2010).

In the speech Kramer rejected common views that Islamist “radicalization” is caused by US policies such as support for Israel, or propping up despotic dictatorships, and stated that it was inherent in the demography of Muslim societies such as Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip. Too many children, he argued, lead to too many “superfluous young men” who then become violent radicals.

Kramer proposed that the number of Palestinian children born in the Gaza Strip should be deliberately curbed, and alleged that this would “happen faster if the West stops providing pro-natal subsidies to Palestinians with refugee status.”

Due to the Israeli blockade, the vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza are now dependent on UN food aid. Neither the UN, nor any other agencies, provide Palestinians with specifically “pro-natal subsidies.”

Kramer appeared to be equating any humanitarian assistance at all with inducement for Palestinians to reproduce.

He added, “Israel’s present sanctions on Gaza have a political aim — undermine the Hamas regime — but if they also break Gaza’s runaway population growth, and there is some evidence that they have, that might begin to crack the culture of martyrdom which demands a constant supply of superfluous young men.” This, he claimed, would be treating the issue of radicalization “at its root.”

The 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, created in the wake of the Nazi holocaust, defines genocide to include measures “intended to prevent births within” a specific “national, ethnic, racial or religious group.”

The Weatherhead Center at Harvard describes itself as “the largest international research center within Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences.” In addition to his positions at Harvard and WINEP, Kramer is “president-designate” of Shalem College in Jerusalem, a far-right Zionist institution that aspires to be the “College of the Jewish People.”

Pro-Israel speakers from the United States often participate in the Herzliya conference, an influential annual gathering of Israel’s political and military establishment. This year’s conference was also addressed by The New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and, in a first for a Palestinian official, by Salam Fayyad, appointed prime minister of the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority.

Kramer’s call to prevent Palestinian births reflects a long-standing Israeli and Zionist concern about a so-called “demographic threat” to Israel, as Palestinians are on the verge of outnumbering Israeli Jews within Israel, and the occupied Palestinian territories combined.

Such extreme racist views have been aired at the Herzliya conference in the past. In 2003, for example, Dr. Yitzhak Ravid, an Israeli government armaments expert, called on Israel to “implement a stringent policy of family planning in relation to its Muslim population,” a reference to the 1.5 million Palestinian citizens of Israel.

The prohibition ‘Thou Shalt Not Murder’ applies only “to a Jew who kills a Jew,” write Rabbis Yitzhak Shapira and Yosef Elitzur of the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar. Non-Jews are “uncompassionate by nature” and attacks on them ‘curb their evil inclination,’ while babies and children of Israel’s enemies may be killed since ‘it is clear that they will grow to harm us.’

Indeed! And to think that Europe pays out of its coffers for this kind of hate simply beggars belief. And while the Jewish state’s government may publicly distance itself from those who quite openly speak like this, it’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank indicate its commitment to the letter of the law.

The first passage is from Mein Kampf in which Adolf Hitler describes how, walking as a student through the less salubrious streets of Vienna, he had suddenly understood the true threat that the Jews presented to the Germanic way of life.

It seems Labour’s education spokesperson was similarly struck by the threat Muslims present to the Irish way of life.

It is a shameful indictment upon 21st century Ireland that the obvious hostility, menacing hatred and incitement went unanswered in political and media circles. Such animus has no place in a society that claims modernity and liberal democracy as its cornerstone.

In a week in which people remember the attempted genocide of unfortunate minorities during the Nazi era, we should also remember the rhetoric that made it all possible. A discourse, not dissimilar to that rehearsed by members of what could be Ireland’s future government.

A delegation of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP) met with U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mr. James Cunningham, today and called for a reassessment of the entire U.S. policy vis-à-vis the Israelis and Palestinians. The rabbis told Ambassador Cunningham that it was time to try the Biblical approach to the dispute over the Land of Israel (wherever that’s supposed to be????)

And what would that approach be? Here’s one in Deuteronomy 7:1-5,

“When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you, and when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them. “Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. “For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you. “But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.”

The Palestinians are the modern day descendants of the Canaanites and the Philistines. Could this be what the Rabbis were referring to? The Rabbis further have the audacity to seek America’s help in their diabolical scheme, “You must switch the entire approach to the situation. We all believe in the Holy Bible and up until now we tried every formula except for that which is delineated in the Bible. Let’s try it and who knows, Mr. Ambassador, maybe this is your defining moment, that G-d Almighty has placed you in this capacity in order to precipitate a new course which will bring a true peace to the entire region“ said Rabbi Gerlitzki.

Could it be true that an American ambassador sat with a delegation of Zionist Rabbis who presented him with a Halachic (Jewish ruling) signed by over 350 Rabbis calling for a biblical approach to the Arabs? If they have Deuteronomy 7 in mind then could it be that the American ambassador presided over a call to genocide?

Despite growing concerns and criticism, Tomi Reichental, a self confessed ex-IDF soldier who proudly boasts of fighting in the 1956 land grab and pogrom will apparently speak this Thursday at Gorey Community School. Calls to the Holocaust Educational Trust regarding the suitability of a man who has inflicted suffering, have been met with the incredulous response, ‘he’s not going to talk about his army days’. Well, that’s OK then, why not invite Radovan Karadzic over to speak about crocheting and let’s forget about his genocidal past. Also how a man who joined an offensive force whose leaders saw Arabs as little less than animals can ‘address antisemitism’ is anyone’s guess. Though the woman we spoke to at the Holocaust Educational Trust had some problems understanding how Arabs were Semites too, so that might explain the reticence on their part.

Sadly, the school has chosen to ignore the very obvious political stance allowing this ex-soldier to speak entails, so it now remains the duty of the students to quite rightly demand answers. To help you along, we’ve documented a few of the many atrocities carried out by the IDF in 1956, the pogrom Reichental says he fought in.

• In October–November 1956, the IDF overran the Gaza Strip, where it remained in control until March 1957. During the battle for this heavily populated zone and during the first weeks of occupation, the IDF killed some five hundred civilians, either in actual combat or in a subsequent series of massacres. Elsewhere during the Sinai-Suez War, IDF troops reportedly killed fleeing, and often unarmed, Egyptian troops by the hundreds and there were also reports of the mass execution of Egyptian prisoners of war. For example, at the end of October 1956, the IDF Paratroop Brigade killed some three dozen POWs near the Mitle Pass. Revelation of this affair in 1995 prompted Egyptian protests to Jerusalem and a demand for an investigation (whose results were never made public). It is a war crime to kill POWs, and massacre civilians. This is Reichental’s 1956 campaign.

• 1956: Squads of Israeli soldiers committed a hideous atrocity in the Palestinian village of Kafr Qasim, 47 innocent people were shot down in cold blood. The careful and premeditated mass murders, never received great attention in the West. Although the Israeli courts convicted eight soldiers of murder, they were all released within two years of their trial, and within three years one of them who had been convicted of killing 43 Arabs in an hour, was engaged by the municipality of Ramleh as the “officer responsible for Arab affairs in the city.” In October 1956 Israel, backed by England and France, attacked Egypt to gain control of the Suez Canal. This is Reichental’s 1956 campaign.

• In attacking Egypt, the Israelis levelled schools and factories in broad daylight. There was no excuse for this wanton destruction and it created another 300,000 Arab Christian and Muslim refugees. This is Reichental’s 1956 campaign.

It is morally reprehensible to allow a man who has unapologetically played a role in this ongoing genocide of Arabs to sidestep his past and speak of his alleged suffering. Hold him accountable as they have held aged Nazi criminals accountable. If you don’t then you have condoned the atrocities committed by the Zionist Israelis. In the words of Efraim Zuroff of the Simon Weisenthal Centre, “It’s utterly retarded to feel sorry for these people just because they are old.” We agree 100%, no criminal despite his age should walk scot free, yet we’ve still to see one Zionist Jew held accountable for their war crimes.

We said it would never happen again, which is why we believe a man who helped it happen just a decade later is not the right person to moralize about suffering. Shame on him, shame on all the schools who have invited him and shame on the Holocaust Educational Trust for belittling the suffering of the Palestinians through this man’s actions.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

RADOVAN KARADZIC threatened months before the start of the Bosnian war that 300,000 Muslims would die while the forces under his command turned Sarajevo into a “black cauldron”.

He told colleagues Bosnia’s Muslims would “disappear from the face of the Earth” and said he had up to 400,000 Serbs under arms awaiting his orders and 20,000 men ready to besiege Sarajevo.

The Yugoslav war crimes tribunal in The Hague yesterday was told of the former Bosnian Serb leader’s threats as he went on trial for genocide and war crimes 14 years after the end of the conflict.

Comment: When Christian Serbs besieged a UN controlled compound, and marched 5,000 Muslim men and boys to their execution – all under the watchful gaze of Dutch peacekeepers (that would be Geert Wilders lot), the would-be victims were singled out by their family names. In every other aspect they had assimilated, and still that was not enough. The fact that they had Muslim heritage was sufficient reason to warrant their deaths.

To those who call upon Muslims to give up their distinct culture and traditions to assimilate into Irish culture – whatever that is – we say up yours! We ain’t changin’ for no one.
