“Yemen ‘must resist foreign forces’”, say Scholars

Posted on الخميس 30 محرم 1431 by Admin

A group of Muslim leaders have said Yemenis have a religious duty to resist foreign military intervention in the country.

“In the event of any foreign party insisting on hostilities against, an assault on, or military or security intervention in Yemen, then Islam requires all its followers to pursue jihad,”

a statement signed by 150 clerics on Thursday said.

Foreign governments have voiced increasing concern about the situation in Yemen since an attempted attack on a US-bound airliner, after which al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed it had armed the alleged bomber.

On Wednesday, Carl Levin, the chairman of the US senate armed services committee, said that Washington should use drone attacks, air raids or covert operations against al-Qaeda fighters in the country. “Most options ought to be on the table,” short of invasion by US forces, the Democrat senator said.

The US and Britain have announced plans to fund Yemen’s counter-terrorism police force, but Barack Obama, the US president, has explicitly ruled out sending in troops.

Verdict ‘resonates’

Mohamed Vall, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, said that the religious leaders’ decision to oppose any miltary intervention would carry great weight in the country.

“In a highly conservative, highly religious society like Yemen, it is the word of the clerics and not that of the politicians that really resonates among the masses. And today the clerics of Yemen have announced their verdict,” Vall said. “In a highly conservative, highly religious society like Yemen, it is the word of the clerics and not that of the politicians that really resonates among the masses. And today the clerics of Yemen have announced their verdict,” Vall said.

The clerics said that their opinion was in line with that of most Yemenis and the Sana’a government, while also criticising the killing of foreigners in an apparent allusion to suspected al-Qaeda attacks. Source: Al Jazeera

MPAC.ie Comment: Until Muslims unite upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Rasool, belligerent, uncivilized states will continue to pick off Muslim lands on the pretext of the war of terror. We broadly welcome the decisive verdict of the Ulema in Yemen simply because any western intervention in Yemen would be disastrous, we need only look to Iraq and Afghanistan for evidence of that. InshaAllah, under the guidance of its scholars and leaders, these great people will attend to the deviant ideologies both within and without that threaten their religion, borders and security.

The future of the Republic of Yemen and its dealing with the world will be decided by its democratically elected government, not by violent, armed Islamic militants.

The future of Yemen and all other Muslim lands will be decided by their own governments without western interference, thank you very much.

    Dear AlexM

What would you do, and what would the West do if the people of Yemen democratically elected armed Islamic militants???

I will tell what will you do … bomb the hell out of Yemen until they elect the people you like.

What would you do if a popular movement overthrew the Saudi monarchy and replaced by a democratic government, and then this ‘democratically’ elected government decides they want more money for the oil they are selling to the West? What would the West do? NUKE it all?

Western bigotry is blatant and unveiled now. The evidence is there when in 2006, Palestinians elected Hamas, and instead of respecting the CHOICE of the people, the WEST turned its back on the people of Palestine and Gaza in particular.

And taking this website, and others, at their own word what else would you have the west do? You’re constantly banging on about how Islam will take over this and dominate that, then you have a conniption because there are people in the world who are prepared to take you at your own word and who act in accordance with their own best self interest.

If the rhetoric of this site, and sites like it, are to be believed then the west would be idiotic to stand by and allow any such regimes to take over any place of any strategic importance whether by means of election (remote possibility) or arms (the usual vector).

The fact of the matter is that the non-muslim world has a military capacity capable of obliterating any, and all, Muslim nation(s) which present a mortal threat to western people or the land in which they live. The reason these campaigns once undertaken tend to get messy is because the west is, quite properly, squeamish about collateral damage. Believe me were that not an issue both Iraq and Afghanistan, or any other stans, would be subjugated in a matter of weeks if not days.

Thankfully this website doesn’t speak for very many Muslims and many of the signs from the middle east indicate that increasingly Muslim populations are gaining an appetite not for overcoming or going to war with western societies and certainly not for sharia or any other such nonsense. Quite the contrary more and more Muslims want to enjoy the blessings and benefits of western societies and their freedoms.

Lebanon didn’t return a Hezbollah majority government and it’s quite clear from Iran that their young population is rebelling en-masse against the “rule of the jurist.” With each day of protest in that country the cries for a considerably less religiously dominated society (that’s putting it mildly when Khomeni images are being set ablaze you know freedom is on the march) grow louder despite the attention of assassins, thugs and government hired muscle.

If the Muslim world offers the west any inspiration, and it does, it is through the courage and bravery of the young people of Iran who manifestly have had more than enough of the type of guff mpac.ie preposes as a solution for everything. They’re living through this, they’ve been brought up in a rubbish society and know what it’s like.

Unlike you Mr. Eagan, when Iranians write dissenting comment on blogs in Iran they risk life and limb. Meanwhile you sit back in the comfort and safety of a western democracy and bleat on about hijab, minarets and persecution. This society grants you that freedom and I for one wouldn’t have you denied your free speech much and all as you seek to deny it to others. You have the freedom to speak but, as well you should know, that imposes no responsibility on anyone else to treat your words with the slightest respect.
