The Prohibition of Imitating the Kuffar

Posted on الأحد 23 شوال 1430 by Admin

At a time when Muslim identity and culture is being assailed on all sides, this invaluable booklet provides a clear and concise admonition on the dangers of imitating the Kuffar (disbelievers in Islam) in terms of religion, worship, celebrations, behaviour, conduct and morality. We encourage all Muslims to read this treatise and act upon its precepts for verily in obedience to Allah and his Messenger lays true success.

A student of knowledge Abdul Hasan Malik Adam al-Akhdar has said:

With regards to the issue of imitation the disbelieving people Allah says in the Qur’an: “Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe to be affected by Allah’s Reminder (this Qur’an), and that which has been revealed of truth, and not become as those who received the Scripture before (i.e. the Christians and the Jews) and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were Faasiqoon.” [Al-Hadeed: 16]

Sheikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said in commentary of this verse in Iqtidaa Siraatul-Mustaqeem (pg. 43): “His statement ((and not become)) is a unrestricted prohibition from imitating them, and it is specific also in the prohibition imitating them in the hardness of their hearts, and the hardness of the hearts is from the results of sin.”

Ibn Katheer said about this verse (4/310): “And therefore Allah prohibited the believers from imitating them in anything from the fundamental or branch affairs.”

In the sunnah from the hadeeth of Anas Ibn Maalik: “Indeed the Jews if one their women would come on her menses they would not eat with her or cohabit with her in the homes, so the companions of the Prophet asked him and Allah revealed the verse: “They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is a harmful thing, therefore keep away from women during menses.” So the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Do everything with them except intercourse.’ So when this reached the Jews they said: ‘This man does not want to leave anything from our affair except that he opposes us in it.” [Collected by Muslim 1/169]

Ibn Taymiyyah said about this hadeeth in Iqtidaa Siraatul-Mustaqeem: “This hadeeth shows the abundance of what Allah legislated for His Prophet in opposition of the Jews, rather that he opposed them in most of their affairs until they said: ‘‘This man does not want to leave anything from our affair except that he opposes us in it’.”

And from the sunnah what has come on the authority of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Aas who said: “The Messenger of Allah saw me wearing two saffron garments and he said: ‘Indeed these are from the dress of the Kuffaar so do not wear them.’ [Collected by Muslim (1/144), An-Nisaaee (2/298), Al-Haakim (4/190), and Ahmad in his Musnad (2/172, 164, 193, 207, and 211)]

And from the hadeeth of Abee Umaamah who said: “The Prophet came to some of the elders from the Ansaar whose beards had become white and said: ‘O people of Ansaar! Dye your beards (with henna) and be opposite from the people of the Book.’ So we said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Indeed the people of the Book wear Sirwaal and do not wear Izaar!’ So the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Wear Sirwaal and Izaar, and differ from the people of the Book.’ So we said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Indeed the people of the Book wear the Khuff and do not wear sandals!’ So he said: ‘Then wear Khuff and sandals and differ from the people of the Book.’ So we said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Indeed the people of the Book cut their beards and leave their mustaches.’ He said: ‘Trim your mustaches and leave your beards and differ from the People of the Book’.” [Collected by Ahmad in his Musnad (5/274) and graded Hasan by Muhaddith Al-Albaanee in Jilbaab Maratil-Muslimah (pg. 184)]

And from the hadeeth of Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: “I was sent before the coming of the Hour with the sword, and my provisions have come under the shadow of my spear, and lowness and abasement has come to those who oppose my affair, and whoever imitates a people then he is from them.” [Collected by Ahmad in his Musnad (no. 5114, 5115, and 5667), and has been graded Hasan by Muhaddith Al-Albaanee in Jilbaab Maratil-Muslimah (pg. 203)

Al-Muhaddith Al-Albaanee also says in Jilbaab Maratil-Muslimah (pg. 161): “From what is established in the legislation that it is not permissible for the Muslims, male or female, to imitate the disbelievers in their customs, celebrations, or dress that are specific to them. And this is a tremendous priciple in the Islaamic legislation that has been left off today, with great sorrow, by many of the Muslims, until even those from them who are concerned with deen and calling to it, in ignorance of their religion, following their desires, or being swept up by today’s customs and habits of the disbelieving West, until it became from the reasons for the humiliation of the Muslims, their weakness, the subjugation of the foreigners over them, and their colonization: “Indeed Allah will not change what is with a people until they change what is within themselves.” [Ar-R’ad: 11] If only they knew.”

It is time to wake up O’Muslims, shed the habits and customs of the Kuffar and embrace your religion fully as obedient slaves to the Almighty, for verily ‘Whoever imitates a people is one of them’.

Hilarious. I just listened to the first one. I’m saving the second one for a laugh later on. I think he was getting a bit excited towards the end. The bit where he was describing the girl wearing tight jeans.

  2. Disco Pants Says:

I’m more curious about the “putting the green back in Eire” slogan. Is **** going to be using a tri-colur to wipe his nose or is there something im missing here?

  3. OL Says:

I’d like to be around when he calls his father or he’s uncles or his cousins kuffars to their faces.

  4. Mujaahid Says:

A Muslim who has reverted to Al Islam would be shirking his responsibility to non-Muslim family members if s/he were to pretend that all was well with their souls. The joy of the hereafter is surely worth the unpleasantness of the here and now.

That said, I do understand that some Muslims use kaafir or kuffar in a derogatory manner, when it is used thus it is wrong and belittles the caller. In it’s purely linguistic sense it simply means one who has rejected the blessing of Allah and is used to make that distinction.

  5. Mujaahid Says:

Glad you picked up on the slogan OL. Green is a significant colour in both Islam and Ireland, the slogan therefore has a two-fold purpose. The logo has a similar import and utilizes the traditional Celtic intertwining loops embraced if you will by a green crescent, the union of which gives us the tricolour. You are free to read what you will into the implied message.

  6. Disco Pants Says:

Islam has nothing to do with celtic or irish traditions. Your logo is as laughable as the notion that you are an Islamist for any other reason than financial gain.

  7. OL Says:

Why change O******L*** to OL ? You use pseudonyms yourself. No harm in that. It’s perfectly acceptable on the internet. Would you agree with me that the person in the first Youtube posting above was using the term kuffar in a derogatory manner ?

  8. Mujaahid Says:

I made the request that the constant use of my former name be discouraged OL. I’m sure you have useful things to say and I’m also sure that MPAC.ie will give you the freedom to say those things, within the editorial strictures.

Brother Fiaz, has been known to use the term in a derogatory manner. I’m not sure if that’s the case in the video as I haven’t listened to it, but if it is I’ll ask editorial to remove it – you can also make the same request OL.

  9. Garlandresmarks Says:

I think Liam is a perfectly nice name. Plus it’s the name that the .ie domain people have this site registered to anyways

  10. OL Says:

I suggest you do listen to it. And find it remarkable that you would post it without knowing the contents of it. Actually I find it unbelievable that you are unaware of it’s contents. For somebody that takes such a petty stance on somebody using the word Liam it is astonishing that unmoderated recordings are allowed. Perhaps as I am just a mere kuffar it’s acceptable for a good muslim to lie to me.

  11. Mujaahid Says:

I will listen to it once I’ve finished revising OL. It’s not my night for moderation so best take that up with admin.

  12. OL Says:

Hilarious. (In a childish sort of way.) Goodnight L**m. By the way, when you WERE NOT moderating before you forgot to change my pseudonym to OL. However you DID/DID NOT change it in the body of my post. Lol.

  13. Whelan Says:

I dont understand you people. I know from personal experience that Ireland has no jobs and even me myself do find I have a lot more spare time than is necessary, but do you actually have nothing better to do than whine and moan and pick up stupid little arguments on islamic websites? what is that? get a life, and a job while your at it.

  14. JohnKavanagh Says:

Guys, you do know that Allah isn’t real, right? If he was real he would surely strike me down dead this second? And even if he was real (which he not) I couldn’t and wouldn’t follow a god like that.

I resent being called a Kuffar as it seems to be used as in insult.

  15. ObservesHumptyDumpty Says:

Nice bit of faux naif you’ve got going there Liam/Mujaahid/Whelan. “….even me myself do find……..”, drop a couple of capital letters and end up with …”get a life, and a job….” You wouldn’t want to give the impression that mpac.ie is just you now would you ? I think you went too far though when you started with ” ….. Ireland has no jobs….” and then ended by telling everybody to go and get a job.

  16. Sean Says:

I’m afraid Whelan is as real as Liam Mujaahid – he’s in the Irish Muslim magazine.

  17. Eoin Whelan Says:

thank you, did you read my interview?

  18. ObservesHumptyDumpty Says:

Really funny, in a sad sort of way. Eoin, did you think Sean was paying you a compliment ?

  19. Abu Khalid Says:

    Salam Alakium,

There is nothing wrong with what Sheikh Feiz says in the video. We should not even consider removing things simply because it offends some of the kuffar.

The term kuffar was used by Allah and so it is what we should use.

  20. Mujaahid Says:

Salams: Agreed. Though the poster does have a point when he says that some Muslims use kafir/kuffar in a derogatory manner – either through intonation or the addition of colourful adjectives :) . We should emulate the Prophet and his manner of speaking to the kuffar. That said, it is policy on this site to use the speech of Allah even if it displeases the kuffar.

  21. Abu Khalid Says:

    Salam Alakium,

You are certainly correct akhi however it is hard to judge sometimes in which way someone is using the term. For example Sheikh Feiz could be easily misunderstood because of the way he gives lectures. He is always loud and this could be taken wrongly by some people.

  22. ObservesHumptyDumpty Says:

Mujaahid, that “smiley” icon says (Post: Oct 13 7:40) volumes. It makes nonsense of your post of Oct 11 7:35.

  23. ObservesHumptyDumpty Says:

“When I use a word” , Humpty Dumpty, said in a rather scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean … neither more nor less.”

  24. Mujaahid Says:

    How so OHD?

  25. Mujaahid Says:

I don’t disagree with you OHD. But considering all the derogatory terms used to describe Muslims maybe you should give them some slack when they reciprocate – we are, after all, only human. That’s not excusing such behavior by way – the injustice shown toward us does not necessitate injustice on our part.

  26. Mujaahid Says:

OHD: I think you’ve monumentally misunderstood the import of the article, the address ‘kafir/kuffar’ is an indirect reference, it is a description of a people, a reference about them not something said to them in a derogatory manner. Muslims are advised to use the best speech when addressing people, and of course the best speech is indeed the speech of Allah – so this address is not to be considered rude or a put down. It is a way of describing those who yet reside outside the bounties of Allah and a call for us to bring them into the fold.

  27. Aguyanon Says:

Maybelline is clearly the work of Satan.

    Makeup. MAKEUP!

  28. Whelan Says:

    maybe shes born with it?,

    no, she sold her soul.

  29. Sammy Says:

Hahahahahahahaha, those vids are crazy stuff. The rantings of a mad man. The problem is that for impressionable loons they could be dangerous. Frankly I hope the people behind this site are on several watch lists. Those vids while not a direct call to arms speak about people of other faiths in such disrespectful terms that it isn’t a huge leap to think that such people deserve what’s coming to them and maybe it might even be a good idea not to wait but to deliver them their fate now. Fort Hood is a chilling wake up call for everyone.

  30. Adrian Wainer Says:

    John Kavanagh wrote

” Guys, you do know that Allah isn’t real, right? If he was real he would surely strike me down dead this second? And even if he was real (which he not) I couldn’t and wouldn’t follow a god like that. ”

Well John, in Islam Allah the merciful and compassionate is without limits, so from an Islamic perspective there is no problem in his throwing a few lightning bolts your way or whatever, if that should be the judgement of Allah. That said, there is quite a lot going on in your short remarks. For example, you are apparently making the assumption that Allah views your actions with disfavor, I don’t know why you have arrived at that view, but it is quite possible your view of what Allah would favor and what Allah would disapprove of, is not well founded. This site is a scream, it is out Wahhabiing the Saudi Wahhabis and that is saying something.
